“The WHCC Digital Group is an informal group of members of the WHCC which sets out to help each other develop their skills in digital photography. There is no-one “in charge”, and sessions are led by individual members who are happy to demonstrate their skills and interests. Subjects covered are wide ranging, and aimed at a variety of skill levels.
We try to make every session a practical session, and members are encouraged to bring laptops and work on them during the sessions.”
Thank you to everyone who responded to our request to help us create a programme for the Digital Group this year. The programme below is derived from the most popular of the various activities you voted for.
Digital Group Meetings - 2009-2010 Season
These start at 8.00pm (although it helps to arrive earlier, as the hall needs setting out), and cover a variety of topics; most are suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced photographers. Where appropriate, the group will split into 2, and use the small room as well as the main room, enabling us to cover a particular topic at different levels.
Amongst the topics particularly requested by members are two designed to help with preparing for this year’s competitions: the use of “Pictures to exe” / “Proshow Gold” (for the Digital AV Competition), and macro photography, covering the skills needed for the “Close up” topic in our Ladder competition.
This year also sees the return of the popular “Digital Photography for Beginners Course”, starting with “Choosing a Camera” and covering a variety of topics designed to help you produce good quality images. On these occasions, there will also be a talk on a more advanced topic, so that we can cater for the needs of experienced members.
After the half time break, members are invited to contribute to a “slide show”, where images on a monthly set topic are displayed and discussed, with a view to improving photographic skills. Ideally, the images would be taken in the month running up to the meeting (but don’t let this stop you from using other images). As before, we will look at how they might be improved for use in Club competitions; as before, this will be a general discussion for anyone to join in, but this year we will try to focus (pun intended) on a specific aspect of photography in each session..
Please note that Digital Group will be sharing a couple of evenings with the new Studio Group!
