Information about WHCC
Practical Photography Group
The Practical Photography Group is an informal group of members which sets out to help each other develop their photography skills. There is no-one "in charge", and sessions are led by individual members who are happy to demonstrate their skills and interests. Subjects covered are wide ranging, and aimed at a variety of skill levels. We try to make every session a practical session, and members are encouraged to bring laptops and work on them during the sessions.
The Group meetings start at 8.00pm (although it helps to arrive earlier, as the hall needs setting out), and cover a variety of topics; most are suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced photographers. Where appropriate, the group will split into two, and use the small room as well as the main room, enabling us to cover a particular topic at different levels.
After the half time break, members are invited to contribute to a "slide show", where images on a monthly set topic are displayed and discussed, with a view to improving photographic skills. Ideally, the images would be taken in the month running up to the meeting (but don’t let this stop you from using other images). As before, we will look at how they might be improved for use in Club competitions. This will be a general discussion for anyone to join in.
Full details of the topics to be covered at each meeting along with the monthly Set Subject are included within the main Programme.
There will also be two Studio Evenings (see images) giving you the opportunity to practice your portraiture skills using models with full studio lighting.
Membership of the Practical Photography Group is included within the Annual Subscription.
